About

The Hedge Bard's Quill is the homepage of Xander Pendrake, a speculative fiction writer, poet, blogger and zine publisher. The phrase "Hedge Bard" comes from the term "Hedge Knight" from A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, which refers to a type of knight errant, a knight with no lord. Similarly, Xander is a poet with no patron: they write for themselves primarily, and do not like being told what to write by someone else.

Xander has been making stories up since they were a child, and started writing them down in college. As it turned out, they had a bit of talent for writing stories and poems, and have been pursuing a professional writing career since then. Having little luck in traditional areas of publishing, they have begun blogging and publishing their short stories as zines.

Xander identifies as both agender and nonbinary, and prefers they/them pronouns. Their presentation leans towards the masculine side of things. Xander does not use their birth name while online in order to maintain a bit of anonymity. If you know Xander's birth name, that's fine, but please respect their wishes with regards to their anonymity.
